I first started playing hockey in year 5 when we started doing it in PE and I really enjoyed it. I soon wanted to join the ‘after school club’. I put my name down and got chosen to be in the club. We practised for an hour a week and after a term of playing in the team, I was selected to participate in the Merton hockey tournament. It was the first time I had ever played against another school and we came second winning my first medal in hockey. I continued to play whilst in year six and joined a team to train on Sundays. I went to the Merton tournament again in year six and went to many others with my other team outside of school. Once I left year six, I left the other team and joined Merton hockey club which I train at now. I felt part of the team straight away and look forward to Saturday training sessions. I’m glad I had the opportunity to start hockey in primary because I found a passion for it.
